The community of Delaware County is grieving the profound loss of Deputy Tony Skinner, a highly regarded official of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office who tragically passed away in the line of duty on Wednesday morning, following a catastrophic accident on Interstate 69 close to Yorktown, Indiana.
Authorities report that the unfortunate event took place in the early morning of November 12, 2025, at mile marker 247, situated between Indiana State Road 32 and Indiana State Road 26. Deputy Skinner had pulled over to aid a stranded driver—an everyday act of service that exemplified his selfless nature—when disaster struck. As he was assisting the immobilized semi that was partially obstructing the road, another semi traveling north collided with his patrol vehicle. Despite the immediate and brave actions of first responders, Deputy Skinner tragically succumbed to his injuries at the site of the incident.
The Indiana State Police are spearheading the investigation into the details surrounding the crash. The occurrence resulted in a complete closure of the northbound lanes of I-69 for several hours while emergency services diligently managed the scene and provided assistance. The Indiana Department of Transportation first made known the occurrence just prior to 4 a.m., and an air ambulance was sent out in an effort to save Deputy Skinner's life.
