Born with a spirited sense of adventure and a profound curiosity about both individuals and tastes, Jed embarked on his wine career in the 1970s, swiftly gaining recognition as one of California’s key winemakers.
While serving as the lead winemaker at Kendall-Jackson, he produced the renowned Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay, a wine that achieved notable fame and epitomized California’s ascent on an international level.
In 1991, Jed established Steele Wines, which later expanded to include Shooting Star, Stymie, and Writer’s Block, solidifying his role in Lake County’s winemaking community. He was not just a vineyard expert, but also a captivating storyteller, a baseball fan, and a mentor to numerous individuals in the wine sector, cherished for his kindness, humor, and straightforwardness.
