She was an incredible influence. She coordinated the weekly demonstrations near Aurora and 205th; she greeted everyone with open arms and advocated for the vision of America she aspired to create.
She not only articulated her vision for America; she actively pursued it, motivating and uplifting others to join her in that pursuit.
Sandy Labyris dedicated her life to activism and empowering communities, becoming the central figure of Everyday Activists, a movement that inspired average individuals to participate in social transformation. Her path began in her college days, where she volunteered at a local Women’s Center, assisting women and children in need while deepening her understanding of feminist theory and outreach efforts. She later became involved with the Lesbian Resource Center, where she organized women’s events and took part in Take Back the Night marches, establishing networks of support and resilience.
Through Everyday Activists, Sandy promoted the belief that small, regular actions, like carrying protest signs on daily strolls, could amplify voices and spark change. Her digital protest signs emerged as lasting symbols of optimism, emulated by others in various communities.
Sandy will be remembered as an innovative grassroots leader who viewed activism as something that should be accessible to everyone. Her death represents a significant loss, yet her message of peace, love, and everyday resistance continues to inspire.
