The Fresno community is mourning the deaths of 56-year-old Diego Garcia Tepec and 57-year-old Juan Ortega Juarez, two Fresno men who were killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning, September 28, 2026. The California Highway Patrol said the collision occurred around 7:50 to 8 a.m. on Lincoln Avenue between Cornelia and Blythe avenues west of Easton. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene. According to investigators, Diego was driving a Nissan Sentra west on Lincoln Avenue with Juan traveling as his passenger. A large cloud of dust from almond harvesting in an orchard south of the road had significantly reduced visibility. As the Nissan traveled through the dust, a Honda Civic approached from behind and rear-ended the Nissan. The impact left the two men trapped inside their vehicle.
The crash sent the Nissan continuing west before coming to rest hundreds of feet from the initial impact point. The Honda left the roadway and came to rest in an orchard north of Lincoln Avenue. Emergency responders found Diego and Juan deceased when they arrived. The 36-year-old Fresno man driving the Honda suffered severe injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Authorities said all three occupants were wearing seatbelts.
The circumstances described by investigators highlight the dangers that can arise when visibility is suddenly reduced on rural roads. Dust generated by agricultural activity can create difficult driving conditions, particularly when a vehicle encounters a dense cloud while traveling along an open roadway. In this case, the California Highway Patrol said the dust substantially limited visibility before the rear-end collision occurred.
Authorities have said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash. That finding helps clarify part of the investigation, but the full circumstances remain under review. Investigators will continue examining the roadway, vehicles, visibility conditions, and other available evidence as they work to establish a complete account of the collision. No additional conclusion about the crash should be drawn beyond the facts authorities have released.
For the families of Diego and Juan, the tragedy represents a loss that extends far beyond the rural road where the collision occurred. Their lives cannot be defined by the circumstances of their final moments. They were family members, friends, and people whose everyday relationships and experiences shaped the lives of those around them. A sudden and devastating death can leave relatives and friends confronting grief while trying to understand how ordinary plans changed so quickly.
The Fresno community is now left to remember Diego Garcia Tepec and Juan Ortega Juarez while their families face the aftermath of a loss. Their deaths have brought sorrow to people who knew them and to others affected by the tragedy. As the California Highway Patrol continues its investigation, privacy and compassion remain important for everyone closest to the men, particularly while the families process their grief and await further answers.
Diego and Juan will be remembered through the lives they shared with their families, friends, and community. The crash on Lincoln Avenue ended two lives, but the memories created before that morning remain with the people who knew them. As investigators continue working to establish the full circumstances, condolences are with the families, friends, and loved ones of Diego Garcia Tepec and Juan Ortega Juarez during this deeply painful time.
