AUGUSTA, Ga — An investigation is underway by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office into a deadly shooting that resulted in the death of 28-year-old Deunte Myers early on Tuesday morning.
Deputies were dispatched after gunfire was reported in the 2700 block of Deen Avenue at approximately 7:35 a.m. When they arrived, officers discovered Myers with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to Wellstar MCG Hospital, where he was declared deceased at 8:13 a.m., as reported by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities quickly named 21-year-old Tyrese Artavious Wesby as a suspect in the incident. Later that day, law enforcement confirmed Wesby's arrest related to the fatal shooting. He is said to drive a black Chevrolet Tahoe bearing the Georgia license plate SJV2970.
After the shooting occurred, numerous patrol officers and detectives stayed on-site for several hours to survey the area and speak with nearby residents as part of the ongoing inquiry. The Richmond County Marshal’s Office also provided assistance at the location.
Details surrounding the events leading to the shooting have not yet been disclosed, and the motive is still under scrutiny.
