HUNTSVILLE, Ala — The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has announced that the remains of 25-year-old Lazarus Howard III, who had been unaccounted for since July, were discovered deceased on Wednesday along Highway 20.
Authorities indicated that initial evidence implies that Howard was a victim of homicide, although an autopsy will be performed to establish the definitive cause of death.
HPD reported that Lazarus was declared missing on July 19, after having had his last conversation with his mother on July 10. After several months of ongoing inquiries, detectives received an anonymous lead that helped them pinpoint 19-year-old Kylan James Haley as a person of interest in the investigation.
Investigators went to Montgomery to question Haley, a move that ultimately resulted in the finding of Howard’s body close to Highway 20. Following the evidence gathered, law enforcement officials secured a murder warrant against Haley. The process of extraditing him to Madison County for legal proceedings is currently in progress.
HPD representatives expressed gratitude to the community for their support and encouraged anyone with further information regarding the case to step forward as the investigation advances.
