 PUEBLO, Colo. — Authorities have named the individual who died in a tragic shooting early Saturday morning in the southern part of Pueblo as 27-year-old Lejend Watson from Rochester.

The deadly incident took place at approximately 2:25 a.m. near the Uplands Townhomes located off Acero Avenue, as reported by investigators. Eyewitnesses indicated that Watson had just departed from a gathering in the Belmont neighborhood, where an argument had allegedly occurred earlier that night. Shortly after, he noticed a couple engaged in a dispute near the townhomes and reportedly intervened in an attempt to diffuse the situation — a selfless act that sadly costs him his life.

Several locals informed Pueblo Independent News that they observed Watson leave a car and approach the arguing couple just before a series of gunshots were heard. “It was frightening — we heard what appeared to be 20 or more gunfire sounds,” commented one nearby resident. Detectives later discovered over 20 shell casings scattered throughout the vicinity during their investigation, which extended until around 1 p.m.

Residents recounted a distressing sight, reporting that they found Watson’s body on the ground beneath a truck, covered in blood. An additional white sheet was eventually placed over him, indicating his death at the location.

The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office verified Watson’s identity and indicated that his family has been informed. No additional information has been released regarding any suspects or the motivation behind the shooting. Some witnesses suggested that a suspect was apprehended, but police have clarified that there are currently no individuals in custody, and the inquiry remains ongoing.

The Uplands Townhomes, constructed in 2021, have experienced several violent occurrences in recent times. One resident pointed out that this incident represents the third homicide within the complex, which has faced ongoing challenges related to drug activity and unoccupied units.
