Obituary Update: Deadly Accident Close to Colonial Drive Takes Life of Thibodaux Walker

THIBODAUX, La. — An 81-year-old woman named Lois Blanchard from Thibodaux sadly lost her life in a pedestrian accident on Louisiana Highway 20 close to Colonial Drive on the night of November 1, 2025. The event took place shortly after 9 p.m., leading to an inquiry by Louisiana State Police Troop C.

Initial reports suggest that a 1994 Buick Park Avenue was heading south in the left lane of LA Highway 20 while Blanchard was standing within that same lane. The reasons for the collision are still being investigated, but the vehicle hit Blanchard, resulting in severe injuries. She was taken to a local hospital, but unfortunately, she later passed away from her injuries.

The driver of the Buick did not sustain any injuries and is not considered to be under the influence. The driver willingly provided a breath sample that indicated no presence of alcohol. A routine toxicology sample was taken from Blanchard and is under analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

Officials are still looking into the details surrounding this unfortunate event and have called on both pedestrians and drivers to be cautious. Ensuring pedestrian safety can often avert such incidents. Suggestions include wearing bright or reflective attire, steering clear of poorly lit roads, crossing at well-illuminated spots, and walking against the direction of traffic to enhance visibility.

The Thibodaux community is grieving the loss of Lois Blanchard, a beloved member whose unexpected death greatly affects her family, friends, and neighbors. Her legacy will endure in the memories of all who encountered her.

This incident acts as a grave reminder of the necessity for pedestrian vigilance and awareness on the streets.
