The community of Sunshine Coast is devastated following the heartbreaking death of eight-year-old Zeke Hondow, who tragically lost his life on Thursday, October 30, 2025, due to a direct collision between two electric bicycles near Mountain Creek, adjacent to the interchanges of Kawana Way and Sunshine Motorway. The young boy, affectionately known as “little Zeke,” was on his way home from school when this horrific incident took place around 3:36 PM.
Despite the prompt actions of emergency responders and his quick transfer to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Zeke was unable to be saved. Officials reported that both he and the fifteen-year-old involved were using helmets at the moment of the crash. The older teenager is cooperating with law enforcement as inquiries continue.
Zeke's relatives, companions, and the broader Sunshine Coast community are facing profound sorrow at the loss of such a vibrant and joyful young life. Renowned for his lively personality, excitement for life, and adventurous spirit, Zeke made a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His playful laughter, sense of wonder, and kindness are sorely missed, creating an irreplaceable void.
In light of this tragic event, a crowdfunding initiative has been launched to assist Zeke’s family during this challenging time, serving as a tribute to a child who was taken too early. Donors have shared their deep sadness, remembering him as a cherished young boy whose “angel wings” now protect his family.
Officials in Queensland, such as Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg and Attorney-General Deb Frecklington, have expressed their sympathies and emphasized the urgent need for improved safety measures regarding e-bikes to avert similar incidents in the future.
Although Zeke Hondow’s life was sadly short, he left a lasting impact on his loved ones, friends, and the community. His essence, purity, and happiness will always be remembered, and his legacy will endure in the hearts of those who cared for him.
