The deceased has been recognized as 46-year-old Alan Rush. Officials stated that the occurrence took place during a standoff between Rush and Officer Zackery Jennings, which intensified when Rush produced a gun.

The task force was looking for 36-year-old William Lowe, who had an outstanding warrant for a stolen vehicle and was believed to have participated in previous burglaries.
