Anthony Ungerman Boca Raton Florida Passing and Tribute: Vice President of Security and Cybersecurity Dies at 60

Anthony Ungerman Boca Raton Florida Death and Obituary – With heavy hearts, relatives, friends, and the Boca Raton community express their sadness over the death of Anthony Ungerman, who passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the age of 60. Anthony was a well-regarded leader in technology, holding the position of Vice President of Security and Deputy Chief Security Officer at Avalara, where his contributions to cybersecurity and software development earned him recognition and respect among his peers.

Born in Dallas, Texas, to Nancy and Jay Ungerman, Anthony grew up in a nurturing and tightly-knit family with two older sisters, Carrie and Leslie, a younger brother, Garin, as well as a supportive circle of aunts, uncles, and cousins who felt like siblings. His early life was filled with warmth, joy, and a profound sense of community—principles that he upheld in all areas of his life, both personally and professionally.

In his mid-twenties, Anthony moved to Miami, Florida, where he crossed paths with his future spouse, Marisa. Their relationship developed into a remarkable 35-year journey marked by love, camaraderie, and a shared mission. Together, they nurtured three daughters—Katya, Bianca, and Sabrina—and delighted in the arrival of grandchildren who brought him great happiness. Family and friends recall his commitment to simple, everyday moments, whether it was enjoying meals together, playing with the family cats, or celebrating the accomplishments of his children.

Anthony developed a keen interest in technology at a young age. Receiving his first computer for his Bar Mitzvah in 1978 sparked a lifelong enthusiasm that paved the way for a successful career in software engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. He achieved numerous patents throughout his work, but his most significant influence stemmed from his role as a mentor and advocate. He fervently supported marginalized voices in the tech field, championing women in computer science and promoting LGBTQ+ rights, especially for transgender individuals.

His colleagues remember him as a brilliant, humble individual who generously offered his time to assist others in achieving success. Aside from his professional accomplishments, Anthony was known for his humor, intelligence, and varied interests. He enjoyed Billy Joel's music, chess, poker, video games, reading, and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. His contagious laughter and insightful advice profoundly impacted everyone who encountered him.

Anthony Ungerman's life embodied love, ambition, and generosity. He is survived by his spouse, Marisa; daughters Katya (and her husband), Bianca (and Conor), and Sabrina; his grandchildren; parents Nancy and Jay; and siblings Carrie, Leslie, and Garin. A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, December 21, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Glick Family Funeral Home, located at 3600 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL, with shiva to follow at Woodfield Country Club. In his honor, contributions can be made via Venmo to Wendy Koolik (@Wendy-Koolik) to assist the family.

The legacy of Anthony Ungerman will continue through the love he expressed, the people he influenced, and the many ways he contributed to a brighter, more equitable, and compassionate world.
