D’Andre Latrell Sowell Jr Obituary Death News: 21-Year-Old D’Andre Latrell Sowell Jr Tragically Killed by Gunfire on the Front Porch of Home in Southwest Birmingham

 CALERA, Ala. — The community of Calera is mourning the tragic passing of D’Andre Latrell Sowell Jr., 21, who was shot and killed on the porch of a home in southwest Birmingham on Monday evening.



Officials reported that the event took place at approximately 11:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of Boise Avenue. Officers from Birmingham’s West Precinct arrived on the scene after ShotSpotter registered gunshots in the vicinity. Upon their arrival, they discovered Sowell lying on the front porch of what seemed to be an unoccupied residence. He was declared dead at the location at 12:13 a.m. Tuesday.

Officer De’Rell Freeman indicated that further information is scarce, and no suspects have been apprehended concerning the shooting.

Sowell's death is recorded as Birmingham’s 86th homicide of the year 2025 and contributes to a larger count of 126 homicides throughout Jefferson County this year. The young man's family, friends, and community members are heartbroken by this incident, grieving the loss of a life taken too soon.
