Freeman Oliver Jones, age 44, was fatally shot in a lawful shooting incident in Hardin County.

HARDIN COUNTY, Texas — Officials have stated that the shooting death of 44-year-old Freeman Oliver Jones near Silsbee on Monday is deemed justified, as per Sheriff Mark Davis. There have been no charges filed regarding Jones’ death.

Sheriff Davis mentioned that around noon, Jones smashed the front door of his parents’ residence on Jones Lane and made threats toward family members while insisting on cash. He left the home momentarily but returned wielding a steel pipe jack handle, behaving aggressively, and family members suspected he might be under the influence of narcotics.

When Jones tried to re-enter the house for a second time, a family member discharged a single round from a shotgun to safeguard the occupants. Jones was declared dead at the location, and Justice of the Peace Chris Ingram has called for an autopsy to be conducted.

After evaluating witness accounts and examining the evidence, Sheriff Davis indicated that the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office concludes that the use of force was legally justified. These findings will be forwarded to Hardin County District Attorney Rebecca Walton for further evaluation.

Sheriff Davis expressed his sympathies, stating, “Our thoughts are with this family during this difficult time,” highlighting the tragic circumstances of the event and the necessity of ensuring family safety.
