Jaclyn Hamill Car Incident, Brewster, NYS Fatality, 43-year-old educator lost her life in an accident in the Town of Southeast

A heartbreaking automotive accident in the Town of Southeast has profoundly impacted the Brewster and broader Putnam County area following a significant early-morning incident involving a personal vehicle and a freight truck. The authorities have recognized the car's driver as Jaclyn L. Hamill, a 43-year-old teacher whose life ended unexpectedly due to this event.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported that the accident took place at approximately 7:11 a.m. on December 16, 2025, close to the junction of Deans Corner Road and Turk Hill Road. Investigators noted that the accident involved a 2016 Honda Civic and a commercial moving vehicle heading in opposite directions. Emergency personnel responded promptly; however, Hamill was pronounced dead on-site. The two individuals inside the moving truck sustained no injuries.

Initial investigations suggest that the Honda Civic was heading south on Deans Corner Road as it neared Turk Hill Road. When attempting a curve, the car crossed over the double yellow centerline into the lane for northbound traffic and struck the oncoming truck. Officials stressed that the investigation is ongoing and that the specific causes of the accident have yet to be completely established.

Deans Corner Road was shut down for several hours after the crash to allow emergency responders and investigators to effectively handle the situation. The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit aided local officials in analyzing the positions of the vehicles, roadway conditions, and other physical evidence to better understand the sequence of events. Traffic was allowed to flow again after the site was cleared.

Hamill’s passing has had a deep impact on those who were familiar with her, especially in the education sector, where she was recognized as a devoted teacher who was genuinely invested in her students' welfare. Friends and coworkers have characterized her as caring, diligent, and dedicated to positively influencing young lives. The news of the accident has led to an outpouring of support for her family and those close to her.

In a statement, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office conveyed heartfelt sympathies to Hamill’s family during this difficult period. Officials also urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly on winding rural roads during morning hours when factors like visibility, weather, or fatigue can heighten risks.

As the investigation progresses, authorities have indicated that more information will be shared as it becomes accessible. Community members are encouraged to keep Hamill’s family in their thoughts while contemplating the significance of safety and awareness on the roads.
