The accident took place around 6:17 p.m. on Fob James Drive, situated between the Skating Rink and the Valley Police Department. Officers from the Valley Police Department and members of East Alabama Fire and EMS promptly responded to the scene after receiving notifications about the incident.

When they arrived, emergency teams verified that two cars were involved. Jaelanya Heard, who was the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the site, age 32, leaving her family, friends, and the wider community in sorrow from the unexpected tragedy. A passenger in her vehicle was flown to a hospital for medical attention, but details regarding their injuries remain undisclosed. Individuals from the other vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital via ambulance for assessment and care.
