In a courtroom burdened by the sorrow of a life lost too early, justice was finally delivered for 6-year-old Eva Bretz. On December 12, 2025, a judge from Franklin County imposed a prison sentence of 18 to 23.5 years on her mother, 33-year-old Ashley Fagan. Fagan appeared in court and accepted guilt on multiple charges that depict severe negligence and cruelty: involuntary manslaughter, putting children at risk, allowing child abuse, and hindering justice. While a murder accusation was dropped as part of the agreement, this sentence guarantees that Fagan will remain incarcerated for nearly twenty years for not safeguarding the innocent child she brought into her life.
