Lyn Price Obituary, Gurnee, IL Passing, Joliet Central High School Educator Died Suddenly

 The communities of Gurnee and Joliet are commemorating the extraordinary life and enduring influence of Lynn M. Price, a respected teacher, cherished family member, and lifelong learner whose impact continues to touch everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Lynn, who was 61 years old, passed away in her home in Crest Hill, surrounded by the love and care of her spouse, Karla, signaling the conclusion of a journey filled with knowledge, empathy, and devotion.

Born in 1963 in Joliet to Bernadine and George Price, Lynn exhibited her exceptional talent for language and literature from a young age. Family members reminisced that by the age of five, she had read the complete text of War and Peace, showcasing the intellectual curiosity and strong dedication to education that would define her life. This passion for knowledge ultimately led her to earn a degree in English and speech, followed by a career that would influence many generations of learners.

Returning to her former school, Joliet Central High School, Lynn committed over thirty years to teaching English and speech, as well as making significant contributions to the tech prep program at the institution. Her classroom was known for fostering encouragement, creativity, and respect—an environment where students were motivated to express themselves and push their boundaries. Her colleagues respected her for her humor, dependability, and sincere concern for each student who entered her classroom. Even after her retirement due to health issues, she stayed active on social media, providing ongoing support and maintaining connections with her former students, celebrating their achievements and offering guidance whenever possible.

Outside of her professional life, Lynn’s focus was on family. She held a profound belief in the importance of those relationships, always greeting relatives and friends with kindness and openness. To those close to her, she was the listener who provided advice without judgment and shared in every moment of joy and every achievement. She loved watching classic films on the TCM network, delving into war documentaries, and getting lost in novels—often choosing to read the conclusions before starting the stories.

Lynn’s legacy continues through her wife of twenty-seven years, Karla; her daughter Jen and her son-in-law Anthony; her granddaughter Alaina; her sister Debbie and her brother-in-law Dave; her nephews Doug, Dennis, and Mike; and her nine great-nieces and nephews. She is spiritually reunited with her parents, George and Bernadine, as well as her brothers, George Jr. and Michael Francis.

A memorial event celebrating her life is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life located on Plainfield Road in Joliet. Following this gathering, Lynn’s earthly remains will be entrusted to her wife, symbolizing the bond they cherished for nearly thirty years.
