With broken hearts, the Manhattan community is grieving the unspeakable loss of Paxton Ledvina, the cherished two-year-old son of Dylan Ledvina, a firefighter with the Manhattan Fire Protection District, and his wife, Ava. Paxton tragically passed away on December 8 after experiencing a sudden and serious medical crisis—an ordeal no parent should ever endure.
Despite receiving immediate medical attention, emergency transportation, and ultimately being airlifted to Lurie Children’s Hospital, efforts to save Paxton were unsuccessful. His death has plunged his family, the firefighting community, and all who adored him into deep sorrow.
From his very start, Paxton exhibited a fighting spirit—a former NICU warrior who had triumphed over significant obstacles through a series of successful surgeries. His courage, determination, and vibrant personality motivated everyone around him. He was affectionate, kind-hearted, inquisitive, and adventurous, bringing happiness to every space he entered. Although his time was brief, Paxton profoundly impacted many lives and leaves behind a legacy filled with love.
As Dylan, Ava, and older brother Wes cope with this unimaginable heartbreak, their firefighting family and the larger community are rallying to support them. Dylan has devoted countless years to serving others, dedicating himself to the Manhattan Fire Protection District’s Project Fire Buddies initiative. At this time, he and his family require the same empathy and assistance he has consistently offered to others.
To honor Paxton and assist the Ledvina family, a fundraiser has been established to cover funeral and memorial costs, allowing Dylan and Ava the space to grieve without added financial burden.
