Ray Ray Obituary Announcement: One Person Killed and Another Hurt in Chicago CTA Train Shooting

 CHICAGO — A tragic shooting on a CTA train in the Loop early Tuesday morning resulted in one man losing his life and another man injured, according to reports from the Chicago police.

The shooting took place at approximately 1:22 a.m. in the vicinity of North Wells Street, specifically within the 100 block. Officials indicated that the victims—identified by family as Ray Ray, 44, and a 23-year-old man—were engaged in a heated discussion with a male suspect wielding a knife. This confrontation turned violent when one of the victims brandished a firearm. The suspect then took control of the weapon and fired, hitting both individuals.

Ray Ray suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was declared deceased. The younger victim incurred an injury to his wrist and was admitted to the hospital in stable condition.

The assailant escaped the location and is still unidentified. Investigators from Chicago Police Area Three are heading up the inquiry.

This shooting incident led to interruptions in the CTA train service within the Loop, which resumed operations around 5:30 a.m. This event occurs amidst increasing concerns regarding CTA safety protocols. Just last week, the Federal Transit Administration dismissed the CTA's safety strategy shortly after it started. This strategy had proposed more police visibility, private security initiatives, dog patrols, and a voluntary program for officers to monitor the CTA during their days off. The FTA stressed that the CTA should implement more stringent crime-fighting strategies to enhance the safety of riders.

In light of the recent violence within the transit system, Violence Interrupters stationed 25 outreach team members on the Red Line on Tuesday to assist in safeguarding commuters. Tio Hardiman, a representative for the group, remarked, “You have ordinary individuals using the trains to commute to work each day, and then they get assaulted, ending up in the hospital. They lose their income, potentially affecting their ability to afford rent. We are fed up with these situations.”

Authorities are still conducting their investigation and are encouraging anyone with information regarding the suspect to step forward.
