Sonja Johanna Strom, an energetic and cherished individual from Castle Rock, Colorado, tragically lost her life in a car crash on September 2, 2025. She was merely 23 years old. The sudden loss of Sonja has created a profound emptiness in the hearts of her family, friends, and community, who will always hold dear her warmth, compassion, and vibrant spirit.

Sonja was born to Peter and Christine Strom and was both a beloved daughter and a caring sister to Annika Strom. Raised in Castle Rock, she flourished within a community that she held close to her heart. From a young age, Sonja engaged in all aspects of life—shining in her studies, taking part in sports, volunteering, and working for the town she adored. Her enthusiasm and sense of duty were evident in all her endeavors, garnering her the reverence and admiration of everyone around her. She completed her education at Douglas County High School, where both her teachers and fellow students acknowledged her not only as a brilliant scholar but also as a warm-hearted and reliable person who left a lasting mark.

Following her graduation, Sonja embarked on a new path to La Jolla, California, where she chased her love for science as a Chemical Engineering major at the University of California, San Diego. She discovered a second home in La Jolla, embracing life with the same zest she had experienced in Castle Rock. The stunning beaches along the Pacific coastline and the pleasant climate complemented Sonja’s adventurous nature, providing her with immense joy as she traveled, skied, and explored new opportunities. There was nothing she enjoyed more than frolicking in the ocean's waves or going on winter skiing adventures with her friends.

Beyond her thirst for adventure, Sonja also exhibited a flair for creativity. She enjoyed trying out new TikTok recipes, immersing herself in books, and attending live music events, constantly seeking fresh ways to savor life. Her vivacity was infectious, and everyone who crossed her path could feel her positivity and zest for living. Whether she was with her family, spending time outdoors, or enjoying moments with her close friends, Sonja made every second meaningful.

Sonja's family, including her parents Peter and Christine and her sister Annika, are devastated by their profound loss but find solace in the love and memories Sonja leaves behind.
