She was rushed to Northwest Hospital, where she later passed away due to her injuries.

Investigators found a lone bullet hole in the back of the front passenger seat along with visible blood, marking the tragic location of the shooting. The young driver of the vehicle explained to law enforcement that she, along with Brynlee and six other individuals, had been departing from a party when the shooting took place. Legal documents suggest that 17-year-old Jeremiah Luke Lajuan Matthews was mishandling a gun inside the vehicle, waving it around and aiming it toward the occupants. A witness mentioned that the firearm discharged while Jeremiah was “playing with it,” leading to this unfortunate event.

Initially, the driver believed the sound of the gunshot was fireworks. Once she realized Brynlee had been injured, she attempted to contact her mother for assistance, but Jeremiah is said to have tried to stop her. In that moment, another 17-year-old, Landrey Korde Matthews, intervened by seizing the gun and throwing it down the street.
