WESLACO, Texas — An investigation has been initiated by the Texas Department of Public Safety regarding a deadly incident involving a car and a pedestrian that resulted in the death of an individual on Saturday night close to Weslaco.
As per the DPS, the incident took place around 6:21 p.m. on Saturday on FM 1015, situated south of Mile 13½ North Road, to the north of Weslaco. Initial inquiries revealed that a gray 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by a man, was heading north on FM 1015 when the event transpired.
Officials report that, for reasons that remain unclear, a pedestrian dashed into the northbound lane and approached the Silverado. The individual was impacted by the front right-side mirror of the vehicle. The driver halted immediately and tried to assist.
The pedestrian has been named as Raul Palomin, a 48-year-old resident of Edcouch. He was taken to McAllen Medical Hospital, where he was declared dead as a result of his injuries.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is still looking into the details surrounding the incident. No further details have been provided at this moment.
