 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic loss of Dr. Matthew Weed, who was a cherished friend, classmate, and doctor. On December 25, 2025, in Costa Rica, Dr. Weed valiantly tried to save a family member from a strong current and lost his life in the attempt. His bravery, altruism, and kindness left a lasting impact on all who encountered him.

Dr. Weed leaves behind his wife, Malerie Bates Weed, and their four children: Madeline, Charlie, Everett, and Tommy. In light of this devastating situation, a GoFundMe initiative has been launched to assist his family. This effort has been confirmed directly with the Weed family, and any donations are sincerely valued to help address their urgent needs.

Matt’s impact goes well beyond what he accomplished professionally. He committed his life as a physician to aiding others, demonstrating kindness, integrity, and compassion in every single encounter.
