The cutting horse community is grieving the passing of Shannon Peeler Lamb from Texas, an extraordinary competitor, advisor, and beloved friend. Shannon's life ended far too early, and she leaves behind a legacy recognized for her expertise in the arena, as well as her compassion, integrity, and steadfast commitment to her horses and the community.
Shannon demonstrated her passion for cutting horses in each ride, every training opportunity, and all her interactions with other riders. For her, the sport transcended awards or accolades; it was rooted in respect, fairness, and the connection between rider and horse. Her strong competitive nature was always balanced by her compassion, kindness, and encouragement for those around her.
In addition to her achievements, Shannon served as a cornerstone for the weekend cutting community. She uplifted others in a subtle manner, led through her own actions, and ensured that everyone felt acknowledged, appreciated, and motivated. Her friendliness, laughter, and generosity made a significant impact on everyone she encountered.
Shannon is survived by her family, including James Figiel, Broke Spur Ranch, and numerous friends and riders whose lives she influenced. Although she is no longer with us, her impact persists in the arena, the ground beneath it, and the community she helped grow. Each ride, every horse, and all the riders she inspired will perpetuate the spirit of her life and her legacy.
The cutting horse community has lost an authentic icon, but the light, passion, and love of Shannon Lamb will always be cherished. Ride free, Shannon—you will always be remembered.
