Megan L. Whiting Death News: Officer-involved shooting in Northfield kills woman

 The Northfield community is grieving the terrible loss of 27-year-old Megan L. Whiting, killed early Monday morning in an officer-involved incident.

According authorities, cops from the Northfield and Tilton Police Departments answered a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at an apartment on 20 Vine Street at roughly 12:12 a.m. on April 6, 2026. The caller stated that Whiting had smashed a window, damaged property, and was beating another inhabitant with a fire extinguisher.

Whiting, brandishing a knife near an injured female resident, met officers minutes after arrival. Though several orders were issued to drop the gun, the scenario spiraled and an officer fatally killed Whiting. At the scene she was declared dead.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's autopsy found multiple gunshot wounds as the cause of death and deemed the style of death a homicide. No other officers or citizens were bodily hurt during the occurrence.

Family, friends, and neighbors have been stunned by Whiting's unexpected death; they are trying to reconcile with the passing of a young life under such horrible circumstances. With the identity of the police involved withheld pending formal interviews, authorities are still looking into the incident.
