Rev. Shannon D. Conner Remembered After Nearly 40 Years of Faithful Ministry in Baker County

 The Glen St. Mary and Macclenny communities are remembering Rev. Shannon D. Conner, a longtime pastor whose nearly four decades of ministry shaped generations of families throughout Baker County. Shannon passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at age 57, leaving behind his wife, children, grandchildren, parents, church members, friends, and countless people who experienced his guidance and encouragement. His life reflected a deep commitment to faith, family, service, and the people he was called to help.

Born November 18, 1968, in Macclenny, Shannon was raised in Baker County and graduated from Baker County High School in 1986. Before ministry became the defining focus of his adult life, he enjoyed the outdoors and developed a particular interest in hunting. Those early years formed part of the personal story remembered by people who knew him beyond the church, offering a glimpse of the man behind the pastor’s role.

Shannon eventually dedicated himself to the Church of God and embraced a wide range of responsibilities throughout his ministry. His work included evangelism, pastoral leadership, community outreach, and world missions. For 27 years, he served as pastor of Macclenny Church of God, becoming a familiar spiritual leader for families who returned to the church year after year. His long tenure reflected both his commitment to ministry and the relationships he developed within the congregation.

Education also played an important role in Shannon’s desire to serve others. During his years in ministry, he earned a master’s degree as a mental health clinician from Pentecostal Theological Seminary. That additional training complemented his pastoral responsibilities and gave him another way to support people facing difficult moments. His ministry was therefore shaped not only by preaching and spiritual guidance but also by a broader interest in helping people navigate challenges with compassion and understanding.

Those who knew Shannon also remembered a personality that could bring lightness to serious moments. Alongside his confidence and leadership, he was known for his quick wit and ability to make people laugh. Family members, friends, church members, and others who crossed his path could experience a humorous and personable side that made his presence memorable. These everyday qualities often become some of the most treasured memories after a loved one passes away.

Family remained at the center of Shannon’s life. He shared 38 years of marriage with his wife, Gemini K. Conner, and was a devoted father and grandfather known affectionately as “Papa.” He is survived by Gemini; children Katelyn, Kandace, and Kolton and their spouses; grandchildren Blair, Adley, Ivy, Rhett, Navy, and Avery; and his parents, Leon “Toppy” and Elaine Conner. His family relationships represent a central part of the legacy he leaves behind, alongside the many connections formed through his ministry.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Macclenny Church of God, with Rev. Roger Bolman, Rev. Gavin Campbell, and Rev. Tommy Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, where Rev. Eddy Sullivan will officiate. As family, friends, and church members gather, they will have an opportunity to honor a man whose life was devoted to faith, service, laughter, and family. Rev. Shannon D. Conner leaves behind nearly 40 years of ministry, countless relationships, and a legacy carried through the people he encouraged. His influence will remain in the church community, in the lives of those he served, and especially in the family he loved so deeply. For many in Baker County, his memory will be connected not simply to his years behind the pulpit, but to the compassion, humor, guidance, and personal care he brought into the lives of others.
