 James Ford Brown Sr. is being remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud veteran, and a man whose humor and kindness brought joy to the people around him. His passing on August 25, 2026, at his home in Patrick Springs, Virginia, marks the loss of someone whose 69 years were filled with family bonds, hard work, friendships, and countless personal memories.

Born on December 6, 1956, in Rocky Mount, Virginia, James was the son of the late Jewel Benjamin Brown Sr. and Jean Bennett Brown. Throughout his life, he remained connected to the values of family, loyalty, and responsibility. Those who knew him describe a man who appreciated the simple moments that made life meaningful and who always found ways to bring laughter and warmth into the lives of others.

Family was the foundation of James’ life. He shared many years with his wife, Rosa “Lee” Mize Brown, and was a proud father to Amanda Dawn Brown, Ashley Jyl Brown, Amanda Lee Mason, Carless “Eddie” Brown, James Casey Sigman Jr., James Ford Brown Jr., and Reggie Coleman Brown. His family also included siblings Sarah David, Jyl Campbell, and Jack Brown, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him great happiness.

Beyond his immediate family, James formed meaningful friendships that remained important throughout his life. Special friends, including The Gunters and The Sowders, were among those who appreciated his genuine personality and the loyalty he showed to the people closest to him. James also took great pride in his military service with the Army National Guard and his membership with AMVETS. Outside of his professional and family life, James found happiness in hobbies and familiar places. He enjoyed fishing and appreciated the peaceful moments that came with being outdoors. He also developed a special connection with El Ranchito, a restaurant he considered his “home away from home.” His appreciation for the people there was so strong that he even took an online Spanish class to better communicate with the employees, showing the kindness and effort he brought to his relationships.

James’ personality was defined by humor, loyalty, and authenticity. He was someone who valued friendships, enjoyed conversations, and found happiness in experiences shared with others. Visitation and funeral services honoring James Ford Brown Sr. will take place Friday, August 28, at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville, followed by burial at Roselawn Burial Park. Family, friends, and loved ones will gather to celebrate his life and reflect on the many ways he touched those around him.

James leaves behind more than memories; he leaves a legacy built on love, dedication, and the relationships he cherished.
