Two Fresno families are mourning the deaths of Diego Garcia Tepec, 56, and Juan Ortega Juarez, 57, who were killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning, September 28, 2026, in Fresno. The fatal collision occurred on Lincoln Avenue between Cornelia and Blythe avenues, in an agricultural area west of Easton. According to the California Highway Patrol, officers received a report of the crash at approximately 7:50 a.m. The collision brought a sudden end to two lives and left relatives and friends facing an unexpected loss.
Investigators said Tepec was driving a Nissan Sentra westbound on Lincoln Avenue with Juarez inside the vehicle. A Honda Civic driven by a 36-year-old Fresno man was traveling behind the Nissan. At the time, a large cloud of dust generated by almond harvesting in an orchard south of Lincoln Avenue had significantly reduced visibility. The dust became an important part of the preliminary account as authorities examined how the vehicles approached. The available information does not indicate that either man had an opportunity to avoid the collision.
According to investigators, the Honda entered the dust cloud and rear-ended the Nissan. The impact trapped Tepec and Juarez inside the Nissan, and the force of the collision caused the vehicles to spin. The Nissan eventually came to rest hundreds of feet from the initial impact, while the Honda stopped in an orchard north of the roadway. Emergency personnel found both men deceased at the scene. The Honda driver suffered severe injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities said the three occupants involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. The California Highway Patrol also said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the collision. Those findings provide information about the circumstances, but they do not explain every element of the crash. Investigators continue to work through the available evidence as they seek to establish the complete sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
The agricultural setting west of Easton is an important part of understanding the incident because visibility conditions were reportedly affected by dust from ongoing almond harvesting. Rural roads can carry regular traffic alongside agricultural activity, creating conditions that can change quickly when dust moves across a roadway. In this case, investigators identified the dust cloud as a significant visibility issue. Further details may become clearer as the investigation progresses.
For the families and friends of Diego and Juan, however, the investigation is only one part of a much larger loss. Their deaths have left loved ones facing grief and the sudden absence of two people who had their own relationships, memories, and connections. A crash lasting moments can have consequences that continue for years. The men will be remembered not simply for the collision that took their lives, but for the people they were and the lives they shared with those closest to them.
As the California Highway Patrol continues investigating, Diego Garcia Tepec and Juan Ortega Juarez remain at the center of two families' grief. The confirmed details describe a devastating crash involving reduced visibility, a rear-end collision, and two lives lost at the scene. Further findings may help establish the full circumstances, but speculation should be avoided while that work continues. For now, condolences are with the families, friends, and loved ones of both men as they navigate grief and hold onto the memories that remain with them.
