PONTEFRACT, England — Family and friends are mourning Kevin Mitchell, who passed away peacefully at The Prince of Wales Hospice on September 2, 2026, at the age of 62. After a courageous battle with illness, Kevin died surrounded by the people closest to him, bringing an emotional end to a difficult period for his loved ones. Those remembering him are now turning toward the years of affection, companionship, and family memories that defined his life.
Kevin leaves behind his devoted wife, Jemma, and his beloved son, Lewis, along with Lewis’s partner, Issy. He was also a cherished brother to Keith, Wendy, Janet, and Hayley, as well as a brother-in-law, uncle, son-in-law to Jennifer and Terry, and dear friend. The wide circle of relationships reflected in his family tribute shows how many different roles Kevin held in the lives of the people who loved him and how deeply his presence will be missed.
For those closest to Kevin, his final days were marked by the support of family and the care provided at The Prince of Wales Hospice. Dying surrounded by loved ones gave his family the opportunity to remain together during an incredibly important and emotional moment. The hospice also represents a meaningful part of Kevin’s final chapter, and his family has chosen to support the organization through donations connected with his funeral arrangements.
Kevin’s passing is being remembered not only as the end of a difficult illness journey but as the loss of a husband, father, brother, uncle, relative, and friend. These relationships are often where a person’s most lasting influence can be found. The memories created through family occasions, conversations, shared experiences, and years of friendship will remain with those who knew Kevin long after the funeral service has taken place.
His funeral service is scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2026, at 12:20 p.m. at Pontefract Crematorium. Family flowers have been requested by the family, while donations will be gratefully received and shared between The Prince of Wales Hospice and Macmillan Nurses. The arrangements provide friends and relatives with an opportunity to honor Kevin while also supporting organizations connected with the care and compassion that became important during his illness.
Following the service, family and friends will gather for refreshments at The Kingscroft Hotel. Mourners have also been asked to wear blue in accordance with the family’s wishes, giving those attending a shared way to participate in the farewell. Small details such as clothing, familiar gathering places, and shared traditions can become meaningful parts of a memorial because they give loved ones a chance to come together and remember the person they are honoring.
As Pontefract prepares to say goodbye, Kevin’s family will undoubtedly carry both sadness and gratitude into the days ahead. Grief can make ordinary moments feel different, particularly when someone who has been part of everyday family life is suddenly absent. Yet the love surrounding Kevin’s final days and the number of people who remain connected to his memory reflect the life he leaves behind. His wife, son, siblings, extended family, and friends will continue to carry those memories forward. Kevin Mitchell will be remembered for the relationships he treasured, the kindness he shared, and the lasting place he holds within the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
