David Torres, 52, of Fall River, Massachusetts, died after being struck by a front loader at Excel Recycling in Freetown, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Freetown police and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the facility at 17 Ridge Hill Road at approximately 11:58 a.m. Thursday after 911 calls reported that a person had been struck by the heavy equipment. The incident remains under investigation.
When officers arrived, they found Torres, an employee of Excel Recycling, on the ground near the front loader. Authorities said he had suffered significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Torres was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Officials have not released a detailed account of the events immediately preceding the collision or explained how the front loader came into contact with him.
The circumstances surrounding the workplace incident remain unclear. Freetown police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the case. Authorities have not announced whether any citations or violations are expected, and no further details about potential contributing factors have been released. Investigators are continuing to examine what happened at the recycling facility before and during the collision.
Torres was a Fall River resident who worked at Excel Recycling, but his life also extended into the local entertainment community. According to reporting about his career, Torres began acting in 2019 after receiving a role in the film Jungleland, which was filmed in Fall River. He subsequently appeared in feature films, short films, and background roles, building a body of work while continuing his employment at the recycling facility.
His screen credits included roles in Eephus, Chosen Family, Boston Strangler, Hocus Pocus 2, and Confess, Fletch, along with appearances in several independent productions. Reporting about Torres described him as a father and newlywed and said people who knew him remembered him as hardworking, humble, generous, and kind. Those personal details provide a fuller picture of a man whose professional life included both industrial work and a developing career in acting.
For Torres’ family, coworkers, friends, and others who knew him, his death represents a sudden loss. His work at Excel Recycling placed him in an industrial environment involving heavy equipment, while his acting interests connected him with another part of the Fall River community. The circumstances of his death, however, remain a matter for investigators to establish. No unsupported explanation should be attached to the incident while the official inquiry continues.
The investigation by Freetown police and Massachusetts State Police remains active, and additional information may be released as authorities review the evidence and determine what occurred. For now, the confirmed account is that David Torres, 52, was working at Excel Recycling when he was struck by a front loader, suffered significant injuries, and later died at a hospital. His family, friends, coworkers, and fellow members of the local acting community are left to remember his life while investigators seek answers.
