Nathan Joseph Simms, an 11-year-old sixth grader from Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, died on Friday, October 30, 2026, leaving his family, friends and school community grieving a young life filled with curiosity, laughter and affection. Born on May 18, 2015, Nathan was remembered by his loved ones as a gentle, thoughtful boy whose playful personality and generous heart made him special to those around him. His family’s tribute offers a portrait of a child whose interests and relationships brought joy to everyday life.
Nathan was a student at Northern Ozaukee Middle School, where he continued to grow and explore the interests that excited him. Sports were among his greatest passions. He played football, baseball and soccer, and his knowledge of statistics was extensive. Family members recalled his ability to share seemingly endless facts and confidently defend his opinions. His enthusiasm for sports and his willingness to explain what he knew reflected a curious mind and a personality that could turn an ordinary conversation into an entertaining exchange.
Humor was another defining part of Nathan’s character. He was described as goofy and lighthearted, frequently making friends and family laugh with his comments and playful spirit. Yet his personality was also marked by tenderness. He was remembered as sweet, caring and considerate, someone who enjoyed giving hugs and snuggling with the people he loved. These affectionate habits helped express the closeness he shared with his family and the comfort he found in being surrounded by familiar faces.
Nathan particularly cherished his role as an older brother to Erynn, Cooper, Maverick and Wyatt. Spending time with his siblings was an important part of his life, alongside the time he enjoyed with cousins, friends and extended family. Family relationships gave him opportunities to share laughter, games and everyday adventures. For those who knew him at home, the memories of his affection and playful energy may become especially meaningful as they navigate the difficult days following his death.
His interests also took him outdoors, where he enjoyed nature and fishing. When he was not outside, he liked gaming with friends, siblings and cousins. These activities reflected the variety of ways he enjoyed spending time with others, whether exploring the outdoors or connecting through shared games. Nathan’s life, though brief, included a wide circle of people and interests that helped shape his childhood. His family’s remembrance highlights not only what he loved doing, but also how often those interests brought him together with the people closest to him.
Nathan is survived by his parents, Joshua and Angel Simms, and Jessica and Jeff Simms, as well as his siblings. His surviving relatives also include grandparents Shelly and Mike Kroeger and Teri and Scott Hollrith, along with great-grandfather Richard Junge, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his Papa Bruce Koehler, uncle Alan Hamm, and great-grandparents Ginny Junge, Joe Hamm and Betty Hamm. His family has invited those wishing to honor his memory to consider a contribution to his memorial fund through Port Washington State Bank.
A funeral service for Nathan is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2026, at Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington, Wisconsin.
