SHREVEPORT, La — Officials have revealed the name of the individual killed in a tragic wrong-way accident that took place on Friday evening on Interstate 49 near Highway 170 in Caddo Parish.
As stated by the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO), deputies arrived at the site at approximately 9:13 p.m. on November 7 after receiving reports about a collision involving two vehicles. Investigators found that a dark SUV was navigating north in the lanes designated for southbound traffic on I-49 when it struck a white pickup truck in a head-on collision.
Emergency responders reached the scene shortly after and confirmed the death of the SUV driver at 9:31 p.m. On November 9, the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office named the deceased as 47-year-old Anthony Barone.
The pickup truck driver sustained critical injuries and was transported by LifeAir to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Officials indicate that the injuries are life-threatening, and there have been no updates provided regarding the condition of this individual.
The accident resulted in significant destruction, with both vehicles suffering extensive damage. A segment of I-49 was momentarily shut down while deputies and investigators worked on reconstructing the details surrounding the fatal crash.
