Deputy Fatally Shot, Multiple Individuals Hurt in Devastating Shooting Linked to Eviction in Indian River County

 INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — A tragic incident transpired early Friday morning when an eviction attempt escalated into violence at the Bermuda Club located along A1A, slightly north of Vero Beach. Vero Beach Mayor John Cotugno verified that one deputy from Indian River County has lost his life, and several other deputies sustained injuries during the event.


According to officials, the gunfire erupted as deputies were approaching a home in the Bermuda Club area to deliver an eviction notice. What started as a normal civil procedure took a sudden turn, leaving families grieving and the law enforcement community in shock.

The deputies who were hurt were swiftly taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, accompanied by a complete police escort, but their medical status has not yet been disclosed.
