A brutal incident occurring late at night on Warren Avenue has resulted in the death of a woman and left a man in critical condition, as reported by the Asheville Police Department.
Law enforcement arrived at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, to aid emergency medical services with a male found in the street who had sustained serious injuries due to an assault. While officers were searching the vicinity, they were led to a nearby residence where they found a woman who had been fatally stabbed.
Authorities swiftly identified 32-year-old Douglas Michael Stroupe as the alleged perpetrator. He was taken into custody minutes after near the location of the incident.
Police verified that Stroupe had recently been released from incarceration just one week earlier following a sentence for assaulting a public servant.
The investigation is still active, and officials have yet to disclose the name of the deceased woman. This event has alarmed the Asheville community, prompting worries regarding habitual offenders and overall public safety.
