 Cleveland, Ohio – The Akron community has been devastated following the death of 18-year-old Elijah Wells, who passed away from his injuries on Thursday, just days after being shot during a mass shooting at an Airbnb in Bath Township the previous weekend.

As per the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, Wells died from numerous gunshot wounds incurred during the incident, which took place early Sunday morning at a residence located at 933 Top of the Hill Drive. The events unfolded during a sizable birthday celebration that had been advertised on social media, attracting a crowd of young people aged between 15 and 20.

Officials reported that at least nine individuals were hit by gunfire when several shooters began firing at the party. Bath Township Police Chief Vito Sinopoli mentioned that potentially four distinct firearms could have been involved in the assault, and body camera recordings captured one officer remarking that there were “probably hundreds” of attendees inside the house during the chaos.

Elijah's mother, Alicia Wells, provided sorrowful updates on social media as her son struggled to survive. On Monday, she revealed that medical staff had to force air into his lungs and that he was reliant on life support. By Wednesday, she shared the heartrending news: “There’s no signs of life in my son.”

Currently, three of the nine injured individuals have been discharged from the hospital, while investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible. Chief Sinopoli stressed that “no community is immune to violence” and is committed to seeking justice for the victims and their families.

Documents indicate that the $1.2 million property, owned by Michael D. Jones from Henderson, Nevada, was rented out unlawfully as an Airbnb, despite local zoning regulations forbidding such rentals.

The passing of Elijah Wells has left his family, friends, and the Akron community grief-stricken. Those close to him describe him as a bright, compassionate young man whose journey was just beginning.
