Four Individuals Sentenced to Prison Following Aggressive Theft of Nottingham Student

Nottingham, UK — Four individuals have been sentenced to prison following a violent robbery in Nottingham that left a 19-year-old student severely assaulted, coerced into an alley, and robbed during a horrifying 40-minute episode. This occurrence took place in the early hours of Tuesday, 18 April 2023, on Wellington Street in the center of Nottingham.

The student, who was by himself, was unexpectedly confronted by three individuals wearing masks. They forcefully pulled him into a private alleyway, where they secured a gate to hinder his escape. The assailants took the victim’s iPhone and compelled him to share his passcodes. They then entered his banking app, transferring £1,539.63 from the student's account to another account before fleeing with his phone.

A detailed investigation by Nottinghamshire Police revealed crucial evidence through CCTV recordings. The suspects were located at a restaurant in Hockley, where one of them was seen conducting a bank card transaction. Subsequent financial inquiries indicated that Oliver Sapounov, among the suspects, was connected to the robbery. It was discovered that Sapounov served as one of three directors of a company that was formed merely two months prior to the offense.

Further inquiry identified Sapounov’s co-directors, Aqeel Hussain and Sefa Duzgan, both of whom had ties to the crime due to their previous connections with Sapounov at a college in Luton. Search warrants were executed at various sites, leading to the recovery of important evidence, including large amounts of cash.

During these searches, the victim's stolen iPhone was located in Sapounov’s bedroom. Sapounov was arrested on charges of robbery and money laundering, while Hussain was detained, and Duzgan subsequently turned himself into the authorities.

A fourth suspect, Adeel Din, was taken into custody on charges of money laundering after bank transactions linked him to the illegal acts. Confronted with substantial evidence, Hussain, Duzgan, and Din admitted guilt to several charges at Nottingham Crown Court, while Sapounov was adjudicated guilty by a jury.

The four men have now received their sentences, concluding the terrifying crime wave that impacted the victim.
