Harrisburg Air National Guard Base Conducts Active Shooter Exercise, Short-Term Lockdown Ended

The Air National Guard Base in Harrisburg carried out a planned active shooter drill on Saturday, momentarily putting the facility under a temporary lockdown. This exercise was part of continuous training initiatives designed to evaluate the base's emergency response protocols, security strategies, and coordination between units.

Throughout the simulation, all access points were closed off, staff members were told to seek refuge in designated safe areas, and security teams implemented practice threat procedures. Authorities communicated to the public that the lockdown and related actions were part of a managed scenario and that no genuine danger to the base or the nearby regions was present.

"This training is crucial for making sure our staff is adequately prepared for any genuine emergencies," stated the base command. "Prioritizing high readiness and safety levels is essential for us, and these drills play an important role in that dedication."

After the completion of the drill, standard operations continued without any reported injuries or significant disturbances, apart from the short lockdown period.

While residents and those in the community were made aware that the incident was solely a practice exercise, officials recognized that the heightened activity around the base could have raised concerns for some individuals. They assured the public that the situation did not endanger public safety.
