In Cherished Remembrance of CJ Fiefia and Xylie Hutchinson Always Remembered, Always Longed For

The Cache Valley community is enduring an indescribable tragedy as two promising young individuals, 17-year-old CJ Fiefia from Avon and 14-year-old Xylie Hutchinson from Hyrum, lost their lives in a heartbreaking two-vehicle collision on Saturday night in Providence. What began as a typical evening for a group of friends transformed into a moment that irrevocably altered the lives of families, friends, classmates, and the broader community.

On a peaceful section of South SR-165, close to 1815 South, five teenagers were traveling together in a Toyota Corolla, a vehicle filled with music, laughter, and the unrestrained joy that characterizes youth. Suddenly, that carefree night took a tragic turn when the car lost its grip on the road, sliding into the far lane intended for southbound traffic. A Toyota Sienna, moving south, collided with the Corolla on the passenger side, resulting in the smaller vehicle rolling over and ending up on its roof.

CJ Fiefia, just 17 years old, was regarded as a compassionate and inspiring individual — the sort of young man who left a lasting impact on everyone lucky enough to cross his path. Whether on the football field, within school corridors, or among his close family and friends, CJ radiated joy, strength, and affection. His loss creates a void that words cannot adequately express, a void now lovingly held by the community that admired him deeply.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Xylie Hutchinson battled valiantly throughout the night. Her mother, Kassaundra Hutchinson, revealed that Xylie endured major head injuries and significant trauma across her body. Despite the relentless efforts of medical professionals, Xylie sadly passed away Sunday morning at a trauma center, enveloped in love. She was a lively, sweet, and imaginative girl — someone who brightened every space she entered, offering comfort, laughter, and hope to those around her. Xylie's gentle spirit, beaming smile, and joyful essence will be forever cherished by those who loved her best.

The accident necessitated the closure of SR-165 for over four hours as troopers and various helping services — including the Logan Police Department, Logan Fire Department, and Cache County Sheriff’s Office — diligently worked to examine the site and assist those affected.

As Cache Valley collectively mourns, thoughts turn to honoring the legacies of CJ and Xylie — two youth whose lives were cut short too early, leaving behind cherished memories that are beyond measure.
