 The community of Anderson County is grieving the untimely passing of 58-year-old Charles Coggins, a former South Carolina State Trooper whose life ended tragically following a serious accident Friday afternoon. This incident, which took place shortly after noon at the crossroads of Whitehall Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, has left relatives, friends, fellow law enforcement personnel, and residents mourning the loss of a man who devoted many years to safeguarding and serving his community.

The collision, as reported by the Anderson County Coroner's Office, involved a vintage 1967 Pontiac GTO that was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The crash resulted in extensive damage, injuring three individuals and resulting in Trooper Coggins' death at the site. Two people from one of the vehicles were airlifted to a local hospital for urgent medical attention, while the driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries. Despite the immediate action taken by emergency responders, Charles unfortunately did not survive his serious injuries caused by blunt force trauma, and his passing has been classified as accidental.
