In Remembrance of Joie Carrell

Members of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit have recognized Joie Carrell, a 43-year-old from Fresno, as the individual who was fatally shot in Auberry the previous week.

At approximately 11:30 am on Friday, November 14, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received a communication from Auberry regarding a person with a gunshot injury. Deputies arrived in the vicinity to search for a victim but were initially unsuccessful in locating anyone.

At around 12:20 pm, an officer from the CHP, who was aiding with the response, found an injured individual on Old Auberry Road, just north of Auberry Road. This individual was later confirmed to be Joie Carrell and was found to be deceased. The response team included the Sheriff’s homicide detectives and our Crime Scene Unit, who commenced their investigation.

Details surrounding Carrell’s wounds are being withheld but align with a murder scenario. Recognizing a suspect and understanding the motive behind this homicide are critical elements of the continuing investigation.
