John came into the world in Cambridge, Massachusetts, born to the late Peter S. and Anna E. (Calles) Airasian. Following the death of his father, John took over the family business, Eastern Clothing, which he operated alongside his brother Paul. Under their leadership, the store became an integral part of New England, serving generations of loyal patrons, including athletes, local officials, and community members. In 1972, John married the love of his life, Marie (Keegan) Airasian, and together they enjoyed 53 beautiful years of marriage, raising three sons and fostering a life focused on faith, family, and community. His five grandchildren filled his life with immense happiness, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

John's enthusiasm for Watertown went well beyond his professional endeavors. He committed countless years to community service, holding various leadership positions, including Trustee and Corporator at Watertown Savings Bank, a founding member of the Watertown Boys & Girls Club, President of the Watertown-Belmont Chamber of Commerce, and a 52-year member of the Watertown Traffic Commission.

One of his notable accomplishments was his key role in the redevelopment of the Watertown Arsenal, transforming it from a Superfund site into a vibrant center for culture, business, and community activities. His efforts were critical in establishing the Mosesian Center for the Arts, preserving the Commander’s Mansion, and founding the Watertown Community Foundation, solidifying his legacy as an innovative community developer.

John Airasian will be remembered for his warmth, humor, humility, and steadfast commitment to the residents of Watertown. His legacy of leadership, generosity, and civic engagement will continue to motivate future generations.
