Numerous Injuries Occurred Following Accident Involving Remsen St. Mary’s Basketball Team Bus in Plymouth County

 A significant accident took place in southern Plymouth County on Saturday afternoon, resulting in injuries for multiple members of the Remsen St. Mary’s girls basketball squad along with their coaches. The incident happened at the junction of Highway 75 and County Road C-80, where an SUV crashed into the team’s bus that was on its way back from a practice session in Dakota Dunes.



The Sioux City Catholic Diocese verified that the Remsen St. Mary’s squad was on the bus when the accident occurred. Emergency personnel arrived swiftly, sending at least five ambulances to the location. Hospitals in Sioux City were alerted as six individuals were reported injured in the crash. Some victims were taken to Sioux City hospitals, while others were transported to a medical facility in Sioux Falls. A helicopter was observed landing in the vicinity, but officials have not yet confirmed if any patients were transferred by air.

By Saturday evening, local authorities in Plymouth County had not provided detailed information on the condition of those hurt or the specific reasons behind the accident. The Iowa 511 traffic map indicated that the southbound lanes of Highway 75 were completely shut down after the crash, with drivers being redirected through a detour route.

Following the incident, Remsen St. Mary’s Schools shared a message on social media requesting prayers for the students and coaches affected. Additionally, the school arranged for a rosary to be conducted after the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday as a gesture of support for the impacted community.

The Diocese of Sioux City conveyed its concern for the injured students and coaches, awaiting further information. In the meantime, the investigation into the accident by authorities is ongoing, with more details anticipated as the circumstances unfold.
