ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An incredibly sad event has impacted the community of Orange County after a 16-year-old student, named Pinien Dalmacy, was shot dead following a confrontation that originated in a school hallway.
As reported by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the conflict began when Pinien reportedly collided with another student, 15-year-old Jacori Redding, without apologizing. What initially seemed like a trivial situation sadly escalated into violence after school was dismissed.
Sheriff John Mina remarked that the two teenagers agreed to convene at a nearby basketball court to resolve their disagreement. It was at this location that Redding allegedly brandished a firearm and shot Pinien, resulting in the needless loss of his life in an impulsive moment of anger.
“I am truly outraged that a mere incident of bumping into someone in a high school hallway — something we have all experienced — has resulted in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old,” said Sheriff Mina during a news conference.
Officials report that Redding subsequently returned to Oak Ridge High School armed with the gun, where he was apprehended peacefully. The teenager is currently being held in a juvenile facility and is facing charges for murder. Authorities have also indicated that Redding had prior involvement in a grand theft auto case, and investigators are looking into how he acquired the firearm used in the shooting incident.
Limited information is available about Pinien Dalmacy, but school district representatives revealed that he became a part of Orange County Public Schools only the previous year. Friends and peers characterized him as compassionate and full of promise — a young man whose life was horrifically ended before it had truly begun.
The community at Oak Ridge High School is in profound mourning, with grief counselors on hand to assist students and staff as they navigate through this heartbreaking loss.
