Tiffin, OH – The Tiffin Police Department is looking into a heartbreaking incident involving a murder-suicide that resulted in the deaths of four people, including two young kids, on Wednesday evening.
This surprising event has created an atmosphere of sorrow in the closely connected community, leaving inhabitants finding it difficult to understand such an extraordinary tragedy in their town.
Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly emphasized the unusual and tragic character of the occurrence, asserting, “As a community, we are not used to facing events of this dreadful and sorrowful kind in Tiffin.”
Officers were sent to the 100 block of Huss Street at approximately 6:24 p.m. after receiving alerts about gunfire and yelling coming from a home.
Upon their arrival, first responders found an adult male along with two young boys appearing to have gunshot wounds, while an adult female, who was not physically injured, was clearly in distress and shock.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the situation unfolded while the children's mother was in the process of taking her belongings out of the house due to ongoing domestic issues. She was being aided by 29-year-old Dustin Willey, the father of her oldest child, while her husband, 42-year-old Ryan Eagon, was reportedly away for work.
According to police documents, the children, aged 7 years and 7 months, were outside by a vehicle while their mother and Willey were indoors. When the 7-year-old shouted for help, the adults checked on him and came across Eagon in the driveway.
Evidence and accounts from witnesses suggest that Eagon forced his way past the mother, discharged several rounds towards Willey, then tragically shot both children before aiming at Willey and ultimately taking his own life.
The mother was able to bring the children back inside prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Eagon and the 7-month-old were declared dead at the location, while Willey and the 7-year-old were taken to a nearby hospital, where they sadly passed away.
Officials have requested privacy for the grieving mother and have urged the community to honor her need for space as she copes with this unimaginable loss. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been engaged to handle the scene, and autopsies are forthcoming. Chief Pauly also requested residents to keep the victims' families and first responders in their thoughts as they cope with the emotional effects of this tragedy.
This incident highlights the deep and enduring consequences of domestic disputes and violence on families and communities. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities assuring that further information will be provided as it becomes accessible.
The Tiffin community is currently dealing with a profound sense of loss, providing support to the surviving mother and commemorating the lives of the four individuals whose lives were suddenly and senselessly lost.
