The metropolis of Los Angeles is grieving the tragic loss of Tanya Perry, a cherished Metro bus driver, sister, and friend, whose life was ended in a hit-and-run incident over the weekend.
On Tuesday night, family, friends, and colleagues convened in Eagle Rock for a heartfelt candlelight vigil to pay tribute to Tanya's life and legacy. The setting was filled with sorrow, candles, and solemn prayers as those who loved her reflected on a woman whose compassion and commitment impacted all who encountered her.
As reported by the Los Angeles Police Department, the deadly incident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Sunday near the intersection of the 2 Freeway and Colorado Boulevard. Officials from Metro indicated that Tanya was on her break when she was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene. Despite the prompt actions of the personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department, Tanya died from her injuries and was declared dead at the location.
The area was secured by authorities as they searched for evidence, hoping to discover the identity of the driver accountable for the tragedy. The LAPD continues to request assistance from anyone with information, highlighting that any snippet of detail could aid in achieving justice for Tanya and provide closure for her loved ones.
During the vigil, Tanya's sister, Logan, spoke with tears in her eyes, portraying her as a person who worked tirelessly, loved profoundly, and motivated all those around her.
"My sister had a huge heart," Logan mentioned. "She dedicated herself to her job daily and inspired everyone nearby. This is such a blow to our family. She did not merit this."
Friends and coworkers recounted shared experiences of Tanya's generosity and resolve. She was recognized for her strong dedication to work, her bright smile, and her caring spirit. Beyond her responsibilities with Metro, Tanya had newly launched a baking venture called Forever Sweets, something she was eager to cultivate — a dream now tragically left unfinished.
In a statement, LA Metro conveyed its sadness and appreciation to the police and firefighters who responded that night, indicating that Tanya’s commitment and service would always be remembered.
As the candles flickered in the brisk evening breeze, those present remained silent, joined in sorrow yet united in love — for a woman whose existence brought about positive change every single day.
Tanya’s untimely departure serves as a painful reminder of the fragility of life, while also showcasing the immense strength of love, community, and memory in confronting loss.
Rest in peace, beloved Tanya Perry. Your spirit, laughter, and affection will eternally resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know you. Taken too early, but will always be remembered.
