Tragic Accident on Parkway East Results in the Death of Keturah Griffin

Authorities are looking into a tragic accident that took place in the early hours of November 24, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Keturah Griffin. This event happened around 5:30 a.m. on I-376, at approximately mile marker 73, near the Hot Metal Bridge situated between the Oakland exit and the Squirrel Hill Tunnel. The crash, which involved two automobiles, ignited a fire that forced the closure of the eastbound lanes for several hours while emergency personnel addressed the situation.

As reported by Pennsylvania State Police, the accident started when Griffin's Infiniti sedan became immobilized due to mechanical problems. She had turned on her hazard lights and requested a tow truck while she remained in her car. Shortly after that, an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup truck, operated by an unnamed driver, collided with the back of the parked Infiniti. Onlookers indicated that the pickup truck switched lanes just prior to the impact, possibly overlooking the disabled vehicle ahead.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY - GOD BLESS YOU

The collision's intensity led to the Infiniti catching fire, leaving Griffin trapped within. Although the pickup truck operator and two police detectives from Pittsburgh attempted to help her escape, the fire spread too rapidly for them to reach her in time. Emergency medical teams pronounced Griffin deceased at the site, while the driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing as officials analyze witness accounts, physical evidence from the scene, and data from the vehicles involved. This accident underscores the considerable dangers that disabled vehicles encounter on fast-moving roads, especially under conditions of reduced visibility. Even with hazard lights activated, it can be challenging for drivers approaching the area to see a stationary vehicle promptly.

While the Griffin family grapples with the unexpected and heartbreaking loss, the community offers its sympathies, with many considering the emotional and financial implications of such tragedies. The inquiry is still in progress, as officials strive to gain a clearer understanding of the circumstances that led to the crash.
