Wayne Chang was a passionate educator whose influence on the University of Waterloo community was significant and enduring. Serving as a Continuing Lecturer and Coordinator for Enterprise Co-op at the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, he devoted more than ten years to mentoring students in the areas of venture establishment, business strategies, and startup procedures. Wayne was genuinely dedicated to hands-on learning, making sure that his students acquired not just theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills and the self-assurance to embark on entrepreneurial ventures.
Additionally, Wayne instructed part-time learners in the Master of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology (MBET) program and actively engaged with the student startup community by participating as a speaker, mentor, and judge in pitch meetings and hackathons. His devotion to promoting entrepreneurial thinking and creative innovation recognized him with several honors, including the Distinguished Teacher Award from the University of Waterloo in 2018 and the Sanford Fleming Foundation Teaching Excellence Award from the Faculty of Engineering in 2017.
In addition to his classroom instruction, Wayne’s guidance and support created a lasting impact on every individual he mentored.
He was respected for his talent in sparking enthusiasm, motivating action, and building confidence among budding entrepreneurs, many of whom attribute their professional paths to his influence.
He will be fondly remembered for his commitment to education, enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, and steadfast support for his students. Wayne Chang’s contributions to the University of Waterloo and the many individuals he has inspired will echo for many years ahead.
