 Denise M. O’Connell, 58, from Barnesville, Ohio, departed from this world on December 29, 2025, in the Emergency Room of WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital. Her death has brought profound grief to her family, friends, and numerous community members whose lives she positively influenced through her dedication, spirituality, and subtle acts of kindness.



Denise will be remembered as a caring and devoted individual whose existence was anchored in empathy, originality, and steadfast commitment to her greatest passions.

As a proud and engaged member of the VFW Post 2792 Auxiliary, Denise exhibited a strong commitment to serving others and honoring their contributions throughout her life. Her participation showcased her gratitude for community bonds, camaraderie, and honoring those who served their nation.

Among her peers, she was recognized as trustworthy, warm-hearted, and genuine—someone who engaged not for accolades but from a sincere wish to assist others and feel a sense of belonging.

Faith was pivotal in Denise's life, shaping her core values and guiding her everyday behavior. She articulated her faith most beautifully through musical expression, especially in her love for playing the organ. Denise generously offered her musical talents to local churches, where her performances provided solace, contemplation, and joy to the worshippers.

To her, music transcended mere skill; it was an avenue for prayer and a means to connect profoundly with her faith and others. Those who had the privilege of listening to her perform will cherish the warmth and reverence she infused into every song.

Beyond her volunteer work and music, Denise delighted in the simple, nurturing pleasures of existence. She had a profound affection for her pets, who were her constant confidants and sources of comfort and love. Her nurturing of animals mirrored her tender character and her ability to provide unconditional affection.

Denise also found fulfillment in gardening, deriving tranquility and purpose from caring for flora and observing their growth. Her garden epitomized her essence—patient, contemplative, and quietly beautiful.

Denise is survived by her loving mother, Sharon H. (White) O’Connell, with whom she shared a close and significant relationship. She is also survived by her cherished pets and her close friend, Kari McGee, whose companionship offered support and shared memories that will forever be valued.

Though Denise’s life was not characterized by loudness or ostentation, it was rich with meaningful connections and significance, and she will be profoundly missed by those closest to her.

Visitation is scheduled for January 2, 2026, at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and celebrate her life. Following the visitation, a service will take place, with burial occurring at Hope Cemetery in Hendrysburg, Ohio.

These gatherings will provide a chance for the community to unite in remembrance, reflection, and appreciation of a life well lived.
