Dennis Hamlin Obituary Death News: Dennis Hamlin, the dad of NASCAR racer Denny Hamlin, has passed away after a residential fire in Gaston County.

 GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Dennis Hamlin, the father of renowned NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, has passed away after a tragic house fire at his home in Gaston County, officials announced late Monday. He was 75 years old.

As per the Gaston County authorities, Dennis Hamlin died from severe injuries he incurred during the fire, which erupted Sunday evening at a single-family residence on Blacksnake Road near Stanley. Emergency services were sent to the location at around 6:19 p.m. in response to reports of a fully engulfed structure fire.

Dennis Hamlin's spouse, Mary Lou Hamlin, age 69, also sustained significant injuries in the incident. She was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston-Salem, where she continues to be hospitalized and is undergoing treatment, as stated by county officials.

First responders who arrived at the site found both Dennis and Mary Lou Hamlin outside the house, both suffering from serious injuries. Despite urgent medical care, Dennis Hamlin could not survive.

Fire officials noted that upon their arrival, the house was already nearly half engulfed in flames. The firefighting efforts were particularly difficult due to the home's rural setting, which does not have nearby fire hydrants.

“The house was about 40–45% involved by the time we arrived,” mentioned Chief David Toomey of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department. “There are no hydrants in this area, so all the water had to be brought in by truck. At times, we ran out of water and had to wait for more tankers to get here.”

Chief Toomey indicated that several tanker trucks were summoned from various areas in the county to aid in the firefighting efforts. In total, 14 fire departments, along with Gaston County Emergency Medical Services and the Gaston County Police, were involved in responding to the incident. After nearly two hours, the fire was finally brought under control.

Currently, the cause of the fire is still being investigated, and officials have not provided any further information regarding how it started.

Dennis Hamlin was well-recognized in the racing community as a loyal supporter of his son, Denny Hamlin, who is one of NASCAR's top drivers.
