 The well-known rapper and dancer Dugulth “Junior King” Ferreira, who hailed from Kariega, passed away due to a vehicle accident in the Free State early Thursday morning, which has plunged the entertainment sector in South Africa into sorrow.



Ferreira, renowned for his dynamic performances and his unique ability to blend dance with hip-hop, was en route from Colesburg to Bloemfontein when the incident transpired. Reports indicate that his two young children were present in the vehicle during the event.

Following the crash, they were urgently transported to a hospital in Bloemfontein for care. Fortunately, medical personnel have since verified that both children are in stable condition, which offers some comfort in an otherwise tragic scenario.

Following the accident, news spread quickly across social media on Thursday, with friends, fans, collaborators, and fellow artists expressing their sorrow.

Short videos filmed after the accident went viral on the internet, leading to an outpouring of tributes for the 29-year-old artist, who was considered one of the most promising and rapidly emerging stars in South Africa.

Lt-Col Thabo Covane, a police spokesperson, released an official statement concerning the event. He noted that emergency services were called to the location of a head-on crash on the N1 near Verkeerdevlei in the Free State around 7:25 a.m. The collision involved a light truck and a car.

Upon their arrival, officials determined that one individual had sadly lost their life, while three others suffered moderate injuries. All those who were injured were taken to Pelonomi Trauma Hospital in Bloemfontein for additional medical attention.

Covane mentioned that the road has been cleared since then and that traffic flow has resumed. An investigation is currently underway and a case of culpable homicide has been initiated. Ferreira’s death represents a profound loss for the Kariega community, where he became known for his exceptional dancing talent.

Prior to his music career, Junior King collaborated with some of South Africa’s most prominent artists such as Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Costa Titch, and Early B. His high-energy performances gained him recognition both in his home country and abroad, setting the stage for his transition into recording and distributing his own music.

In addition to his performance career, Ferreira was pivotal in developing young talent. He established and managed King Dance Studio in Kariega, where he instructed dance to numerous children over many years.

Ludwig “Luda G” Adams, a longtime collaborator and close friend, shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, stating, “Rus in vrede Junior King. Mag jou musiek verewig lewe,” which translates to “Rest in peace Junior King. May your music live forever.”
